Conversaciones/Gespräche (2017 – work in progress)

In my Conversaciones /Gespräche (Conversations / Talks) I work with motifs, portrayals and themes from the book “About Painting” by Shitao, the famous Chinese calligrapher and painter of the 17th century. By doing so, I want to establish a relationship between my artistic language, with its specific cultural memory , and certain aspects of classical Chinese writing and literature, which interests me because of its diversity.

Since 2012 I am learning Mandarin and that has inspired me very much.

I imagine this project on a large scale: with these 150 works on paper (143 x 143 cm), which should be shown in several places and countries as an installation wall, I want to intervene into the architectural space with the materiality and the delicate, transparent or fleeting nature of the paper and so I try to explore the possibilities to understand the architectural space as a text.

This project is closely related to my book conversaciones chinas (audisea / Reflet des Lettres, Buenos Aires / Paris, 2018), in which I wrote my poetry from reading the poetry of the Tang Dynasty.
